On May 15, 2009, The Legend announced the acquisition of Bristlecone Pines Golf Course.  Bristlecone Pines has been renamed “The Legend at Bristlecone,” and The Legend is now one club with one combined membership with full member benefit at two completely private facilities in addition to unlimited reciprocal access to our semi private club in Dane County, The Legend at Bergamont.  The Legend at Bristlecone became fully private in September 2009, two years ahead of schedule due the success of our summer Membership referral program. 

The ability for members to play two courses, swim at both pool complexes, dine in multiple venues, to enjoy expanded programming and greater access to spontaneous tee times is greatly enhanced with this dramatic acquisition.  Members will have far fewer occasions in which a member event or member program affects their access to a casual round of golf.  Take for example our popular Legacy Member Guest.  Always a sell out, the field includes 60 Legend Golf Members plus their guests.  The course is basically closed for the day to any other member play.  With the Bristlecone acquisition, all the other Legend members now have access to another Legend course to play.  There are dozens of examples like this in which member benefit is enhanced via the dual club concept.

The quality of the Bristlecone golf course and practice facilities in design and condition is outstanding and is an amazing complement to the firm, fast, tour like conditions at The Legend at Brandybrook.  Most of our original Legend members actually live closer to Bristlecone than Brandybrook, so we expect most members to actively play both courses.  Two courses also allow us more flexibility in expanding an already active tournament program for men, women, couples and juniors.

Perhaps the greatest benefit to The Legend and its members is the club’s appeal to potential members.  No other club in Waukesha county can compete with The Legend in terms of refundable memberships and the quality and quantity of amenities and member programming at the best dues value on any club in Wisconsin…..all of course without member assessment.  The Legend’s long term ability to be the primary choice for young families joining a club for the first time is top of mind in all our operating and capital decision making.  New members are the life blood of a club.  Healthy membership growth leads to lower dues requirements, continued investment in operations and capital projects, and most importantly the ability to reissue and refund memberships.
